It's a problem on many farms. Wind. Shingle blow-offs are fairly common in rural Iowa. When metal is not an option we recommend using an interlocking shingle. Standard shingles have a tar strip on them which when the sun heats them up seals them down. In the country this is a problem because airborne dust and dirt seems to find its way on to the tar strip of a shingle that hasn't sealed properly, resulting in a shingle that will never seal down and will eventually blow off. T-Lok shingles don't use a tar strip, instead the use an interlocking design to hold them in place resulting in a roof very resistant to blow-offs.
Another situation that might call for T-Loks, is when the existing roofing just isn't laying very flat. Since T-Loks don't seal down flat, they are better at hiding imperfections in the existing roofing. Not to mention saving time and money on a tear-off.
